Overlooking the Nam Khan river and next to the Tamarind restaurant [qv] The Aspara was quiet, possibly a little soulless but served excellent food.
We sat in the hotel on their balcony though others opted for the terrace overlooking the river. Food was very good especially a yellow squash curry and the pre-dinner snack which was river weed dried and dressed with chilli and herbs - sounds dire but looks and tastes wonderful.
- “Dinner at the Aspara Hotel”
This is well located hotel, quiet and with a good waterfront view. Dining can be either in the verandah, or on outdoor tables overlooking the water. The staff are very friendly. Rooms to avoid at the ones in the annexe they overlook the neighbour's electricity generator so you are not going to be able to sleep well. I was able to move to one of the higher priced but quieter rooms. It is also well situated for the alms giving at dawn in the temple at the back of the hotel, though I would avoid this as it has become a tourist spectacle with tourists being bussed in at dawn, to take their pictures and selfies. However, this does not detract from the hotel which I would highly recommend to other travellers. There are also 2 very good restaurants next door to the hotel serving Lao fare.
- “Friendly hotel on the riverfront ”
Stumbled upon this restaurant on our first night in Luang Prabang. Delicious food and lovely outdoor seating. I had the duck with papaya salad and it hit the spot! My friend tried the soup and that was also tasty. Would definitely try the hotel on my next visit - it looked clean, had a nice location and they offer bike rentals for their guests.
- “Dinner by the River”
I really enjoyed my stay at The Apsara. The location is perfect. The rooms are spacious and quaint. The addition of tea/coffee facilities would be great but there is excellent coffee available from the restaurant/bar. I would like a TV in the room but I appreciate that not having it is probably a deliberate choice on the part of the owner. Service is professional and courteous. Breakfast was delicious, especially the jams. I look forward to my next stay and would definitely recommend The Apsara.
Great value for the money. Conveniently located walking distance to the night market, temples, river cruise start, and nightlife street. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. They have a little patio area out front on the river to enjoy some drinks or have your meal. The free breakfast was delicious. We had no issues with any bugs or anything in the room. Room comes equipped with a comfortable bed, towels, soap/shampoo/lotion, a safe, and refrigerator. I would stay here again while traveling through the sleepy city of Luang Prabang.
